The Beatles Anthology 30th Anniversary (Audio: Nov. 21st & Doc: Nov. 26th)

As work has been slow and I'm all caught up on projects my mind thinks a lot.

I would LOVE for Peter Jackson to have two sets of mini docs on Free As A Bird and Real Love. 30 years to Free As A Bird and Real Love; the journey of making the songs. If there are supposedly 14 hours of footage; you can easily make two sets of 15 min making of documentaries for YouTube prior to the Nov. 21st revamp/remix of those two songs.

I’m especially looking forward to the upcoming demixed-remixed versions of ‘Free As A Bird’ and ‘Real Love’. Particularly for the latter, there’s a wealth of material to work with: single-tracked, double-tracked, and even triple-tracked demos.

Even what can already be achieved today in a home studio is spine-tingling, Lennon’s perfectly isolated clear voice, matched EQ-ed to his professionally recorded vocals, blending with Harrison and McCartney in the mid-90s. So imagine what they can do, with all the options available.

I also hope Lennon finally gets to play on his own songs, by incorporating elements from the many demo recordings, both piano and acoustic guitar.

Below is the 2020 domain playlist dump that was briefly seen (not heard) on spotify:

If you take out the Get Back LP (that came with LiB50) and the Roof Top Performance (that was a YT digital release only): you are left with a lot of stuff that did not make Lit50 SDE nor AR50 box set for sessionS - cough..cough..SOMETHING (TAKE 37).

So far for my positivity: I just heard the 2025 mix of 'Free As A Bird'. The vocals are off sync at times. What the hell. They managed to sync it better with the very rudimentary tools in the 90's! Also, so far for letting him play on his own songs, the piano is now erased altogether...

The biggest band in the world, with what should be the best ears and the biggest budget out there, and yet amateurish mistakes like out-of-sync elements happen constantly because the end result is not A/B-ed carefully with the original. Headphones on, sync them up down to the dot, mono collapse of the original in the left channel, mono collapse of the remix in the right channel, and you instantly hear if an element goes off track.

'Eight Days A Week' 2015 remix: edit piece out of sync; 'Nowhere Man' 2023 remix: hi-hats (!) out of sync; missing overdubs from 'Old Brown Shoe' and 'A Day In The Life'... I'm the biggest modern archival release apologist, but it’s becoming so hard to defend.

Wow....all the vocals in Free as a Bird / the clarity of the instruments (the underlying synth too); it feels like I'm hearing this for the first time just like I did 30 freaking years ago......John and Paul are now at equal depths within the song; up-front depth!

notes: the '15 mix version George Harrison alt line remains....and you get best of both worlds at the end (you gotta hear it!)

Equipment: my Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (studio montior headphones) plugged into my iphone on IG.
