Mine is personally him around 1965,because he seemed reslly calm yet witty at that era in my opinion.

Hard to choose but I think I love him between 1970~1980. It was the time when he was maturing.

1980 as he was so happy about his new son and made such a great album with yoko. my favorite john lennon song is was made that year. if only he was alive to continue that joy. from the beatles era my fav would prob be 65-67 as that was some truly psychedelic stuff he put out

I would also say 1980, given the pure energy and maturity that John had in his final year, his drive really surpassing anything like he’d had before and perhaps making him slightly more like McCartney!

In the Beatles I really love the Magical Mystery Tour era. For everything that had just happened (introduction to Maharishi, Brian’s death, Sgt. Pepper’s) and everything just about to happen (India, Yoko, Linda) it feels that even its chaos is calmer than the Beatles’ real lives. John seems rather content that Paul is the bandleader at this point, and it’s nice to see them recording and filming on their own terms and it still being so utterly groundbreaking.
