Children and Peace

Good Morning/Good Afternoon/Good Evening!

How have you all been? I hope is fine.

The world is in the same place when John and Yoko founded Nutopia: in a state of fear based and wars.

I believe that is important change that. And, by changes, I mean teaching children about peace.

Last week I taught 23 kids about The Beatles. It was the first time they heard their songs. I also taught about love and kindness throught the art of postcards.

It was inspiring and I am sharing some images.

Would be kind to share with me how do you teach your children about peace?

Have a lovely week! Let is all be in joy, harmony and peace.

Hello, Ivy - this is a great topic! I believe teaching children about peace is a very important obligation.

With my own kids, we always listened to a lot of Beatles music, and as they got older we would talk about certain songs that had more mature themes, such as: Bring On the Lucie (Freda Peeple) and Warzone, and how the lyrics relate to real events in history. I also introduced them to Yoko's visual art, such as the Imagine Peace Tower.

Also, in my area (northeastern U.S.A.) there are private schools which follow a "Quaker" (also known as the Society of Friends) mission. The hallmarks of "Quaker" principles include tolerance of all peoples' beliefs and non-violent conflict resolution. The children begin to learn about these principles in Kindergarten (and even before). Quaker education centers on what they call SPICES: Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality & Stewardship. I hope you find this interesting! IMG_0451.jpg
