The thing that makes me feel so fuzzy as a New Yorker is how J&Y were always New Yorkers at their cores. They gave our city so much love, and our city loved them right back. Was listening to David Peel’s Ballad of New York City the other day, and I think that perfectly sums it up.
A lot of people who don’t live here don’t understand this city. I always describe New York as gritty (read as there’s much more to this place than Fifth Ave.), and 70s New York was even grittier. For people of J&Y’s stature, I think what was so amazing was that they defied expectations and really embraced New York for all that it is.
Also, I just want to say, for as much as England gets a claim to the Beatles, I feel like we have a claim to J&Y. This was, and always will be, their home.

I see a few folks knew about the CAFE WHA!! well my band played there on weekend afternoons in 1964-65 ish, on day while packing up the night band came in and it was Jimi!!!

The Village is one area I would have loved to have visited in the late 1950's into the 1970's. So many incredible art forms were born from there in that timeframe.
About 5 years ago, I took my daughter up to see an incredible toy train collection at the New York Historical Society, then we headed back down to look at some shops she wanted to visit, all of which happened to be in the Village. It's always been a favorite area of mine to visit (although I have yet to stop by where John and Yoko lived!)
My daughter also seems to like the vibe there. On that visit as well, I showed her where Buddy Holly lived with his wife, Maria Elena, just before he went on his last tour. He was also known to have visited some of the coffee houses and soak in the early Folk scene that was popping up there in 1958-59.

Hi @Mollusk what a lovely photo of the two! Thanks for sharing.Not to derail the thread on my first postbut I do believe that this is the only pic from their time before getting into Greenwich, when they stayed at the St. Regis Hotel. Really fascinating how little of his life was photographed (at least, as far as we the public can see) whenever he made his big move. I think there was a photoshoot on the 27th of November but, not really much else until after they properly settled in.
