I know, but Thursday is always release day, since wherever you are ("wherever you areeee") it's Friday midnight somewhere in the world after noon UK time. Listened to the full One To One discs through streaming, but the boxset itself wasn't made available.

The full boxset though? I'm saying it because once it's midnight in the earliest worldwide timezone, a Friday release is accessible worldwide (with a VPN). That's how I listen to the the Friday releases on Thursday afternoon and how I heard the One To One concerts earlier today.

Now I realise the whole pre-save thing on streaming and the digital downloads on iTunes were always only about the concerts alone, it's not looking good...

No, this was never the case before with any Lennon release. And my tip: don't assume I'm not patiently waiting until the local record store opens tomorrow morning :P. But by the time I can pick it up at the end of the day, got home, unpacked it and found a friggin' device to rip the little discs so I can finally analyse the new material digitally, it's a day and a half after the usual Thursday afternoon moment.

Disappointing new tactics. It's genuinely baffling because before they clearly understood so well how it works these days. Streaming isn't cannibalising sales, it's the promotional infrastructure many collectors need to justify spending 200 bucks on a niche release like this. Collectors aren't moving away from physical media because streaming exists, they're moving toward it because they want ownership and control, and in this case the books and the whole package which is always done so well with the Lennon releases.

But often only if they know what they're getting first. By locking it mostly down, they're also killing the momentum, since a week from now, people who doubted about a purchase will have moved on and forgotten about it entirely. Meanwhile, on the opposite side you have the people who'd pirate it or skip it anyway, and those weren't your market to begin with.
