I know that there are people who don't care for John's Rock N Roll album, but I have to say I love it! It's one of his albums that I play a lot, up there with albums like Plastic Ono Band, Walls and Bridges and Imagine.

It shows a fun, carefree side of John, reminiscing and showing how much love he had for the music that shaped his life! My thinking is, had he not been obligated to do it, he probably would have done an album like this one day anyway.

Some of the standouts on it, for me, include "Rip It Up", "Ain't That A Shame" and definitely "Peggy Sue"! In fact, since he would be playing Fender Telecasters around this time, it's the reason I had to add a Tele to my guitar playing arsenal!

What do you folks think?

Rock and roll was my first John lennon album in 1975. I've always cherished it, loved it. In France, where I was living in 75, the single was not "Stand by me" but "Be bop a lula"! I love the festive party atmosphere of the album. In fact I have made two albums from Rock N roll! One with the 9 Spector recordings from autumn 73 + "Rock and roll people" , a Mind games outtake. And Rock N roll 2 with the songs recorded in autumn 74 including "Move over Ms L", that was the single flipside. I think Rock N roll is an important album, I mean more important than Life with the lions or Wedding album! Tracks like "To know her is to love her" and "be my baby" display a very soulful John, at times almost OTT! "Slippin' and sliding" , "Stand by me", "Rip it up/Ready teddy", "Ain't that a shame" are infectious! the only song I care less for is "Do you wanna dance", an ill attempt at reggae with a group of musicians who didn't get it! Rock N roll is certainly part of the 50 albums I want to get buried with! Not that I'm in any hurry!

I must confess: Me too.

It was his fun break from the typical albums he was putting out, so knowing that this was done out of pure enjoyment and nostalgia is so comforting to know!! I’ll always love Sweet Little Sixteen and Do You Want to Dance 🤍

You aren't alone! I know people supposedly don't like. I am NOT one of those people! I think Rock and Roll is the John album I listen to the most. I love each song on there. I even bought the John Lennon Rock n Roll album t-shirt from the John Lennon online store because I love that album so much. My mom thinks it is great too and she is a die hard Ringo lover. My favorite song on it is "Slippin' and Slidin'" I love it!
