Beatle Tribute Films

What are some of your favorite films that are inspired by the music of the Beatles!. I'm not talking about biopics or documentaries, but movies like Across the Universe (2007) or The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash (1978). I really like both films mentioned because they do manage to use the Beatles music, legacy and their music to tell great stories. With Across the Universe using the Beatles music in a musical setting to tell the stories of a group of friends during the turbulency of the 1960s. While The Rutles: All You Need Is Cash is a funny spoof of the Beatles story. Rutles being directed by Eric Idle and Gary Weis includes lots of cameos from SNL alumni of the time and members of Monty Python. Both are well worth checking out and if there are any others anyone else wants to mention feel free to.

Across the Universe has always been a favorite! I also love I am Sam with all the different cover versions they include of The Beatles’ music! (if that counts 👀)

I think films that can use Beatles music to add to the emotions of the story or even just add to the energy of a scene counts for this discussion. One of the most iconic scenes like that is the Twist and Shout scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. That song just adds so much to the excitement and fun of the scene.

One film I would like to mention is 1978's Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. It's not that good but I just find it such a interesting failure. It's a musical of the same type Like Across the Universe. But unlike universe, the covers are a mixed bag and not that well implemented. The story is lame and so poorly made and the characters are just bland planks of wood. Despite that I think it's batshit crazy that I got some entertainment value from it. One of the good covers is Come Together by Aerosmith.
